If The Father’s Love Is Not Enough

By Randy Walderman

If the Father’s love is not enough
And you can’t be moved by kingly love
If His tender rebukes and patient tears
Can’t break your will or bring you near

If you’re hardened still to Mercy’s fingers
And turn unfazed while the Lover lingers
If the weeping Man upon the tree
Can’t change the man you choose to be

Then there only remains for you a flame
Mercy’s fire that brands the name
Of Love upon the rebel wild
And passion’s heat that turns the child again

Some say the fire is anger, the flame is endless
The heart, once abandoned, must ever be friendless
That you’ll see His back, never His face
Just love unfinished, an end to grace

No! No! A thousand times No!
Can a father abandon his child?

No! No! A million times No!
Can a shepherd leave to creatures wild

The lost sheep, the one lamb that He tenderly held to His breast?
The Prodigal Son, still running? Will God sigh and just turn back to the rest?
Can He look upon the least of these, caught in unbearable pain
Crying for one drop of mercy and His heart not be broken again?

Can the cry of the Father, the ‘It is finished!’ of the Son ever be spoken in vain?
Can the Man of Scars, the Suff’ring Lamb, forget why He ever came?

No! No! A thousand times No!
His mercy is endless, you’ll see

The perfect unveiling of Strong Love prevailing
The King in His great victory
